This is the Schneider-Farris Family's Blog. Keep up with what we are doing by logging into this site regularly! (The reason this site is called "Tragedy and Triumph" is that when I first founded this site, my husband, Dan, had been in a horrible accident, and he recovered. His recovery was a miracle! Rebekah and Joel Did Their First Fire and Ice Exhibtion on 10-22-09 Since Rebekah Broke Her Foot

Rebekah and Joel got to do their intermediate free dance program once in public in late July. Then, on August 1, 2009, Rebekah broke her foot. The kids didn't get to train for almost two months.

Anyway, this is the first time Rebekah and Joel have done their free dance in front of an audience since July. I think they did pretty good!

In this post, I've included some photos of them smiling with their coach Tiffany Hyden-Dombeck. What a great job she has done on their free dance! She also designed their wonderful costumes.

Thanks Tiffany and....

Go Joel and Rebekah!

Photo of the Schneider Family and Dorothy Hamilll 10-21-09

Olympic Figure Skating Champion, Dorothy Hamill, took some time to really visit with my parents and my kids on 10-20 and 10-21-09 when she was in Colorado Springs mentoring 2010 Olympic hopeful Rachael Flatt. My parents knew her when Billy and I were kids. It was extra special that she took the time to take these photos with us and to autograph Annabelle's skates!

10-19-09 - Photo of Joel, Olympic Figure Skating Champion Dorothy Hamill, Annabelle, Rebekah, and Jo Ann!

In the early 1970s, my brother, Billy Schneider, went to Denver, Colorado to train under Carlo Fassi at the Colorado Ice Arena (nicknamed CIA). Billy trained with many skating greats, including 1976 Olympic Figure Skating Champion, Dorothy Hamill. Billy and Dorothy both lived with the Landis family in Denver. The Landis family's children attended Colorado Academy, and so Carlo asked the families to take in the skaters who attended the school. 1984 Olympic Figure Skating Champion, Scott Hamilton, also lived with the Landis family and trained under Carlo.

Billy made friends with many other skating champions during that time.

Anyway, Dorothy knew me (Jo Ann) as Billy's sister. Our family always recalls how friendly she was and how she always took the time to smile and say hello.

I haven't seen Dorothy in person since the early 1970s I think!

It was fun to reunite today and it was great that Dorothy took the time to meet my three kids and take a picture!

Joel, Rebekah, and Annabelle's Artwork Is on Display at the Colorado Springs School!

In September and October 2009, the Colorado Springs School took part in a collaborative artistic series called Dance on Paper. The program combined the talents of Colorado Springs artists, Ormao dancers, art teachers, and students of all ages from The Colorado Springs School, The Vanguard School, and Mountain Vista Homeschool Academy.

Since Joel, Rebekah, and Annabelle are part of Mountain Vista Homeschool Academy, all three children got to take part in this wonderful program. On October 13, 2009 an art show of all the works done in the program were put on display at the Colorado Springs School, and Rebekah, Joel, and Annabelle's artwork was included. Their was a special opening program on that day. Their drawings, and the drawings of the other participants will be shown at the Colorado Springs School for about a month!

This was so an honor and a great opportunity for the kids!

Rebekah says:
"It was such a relaxing experience. The stage was so quiet and peaceful. I could have kept drawing for hours and hours."

Joel says:
"I found it hard to draw people, so I decided to draw the boxes the people were sitting on. That was great. It is really fun to draw boxes and I learned a lot."

Annabelle says:
"I was thrilled to be invited to the figure drawing! You see, I'm only ten years old, but since I'm homeschooled and part of Mountain Vista Homeschool Academy, I got to join my older brother and sister at the Colorado Springs School's special program. It was fun to go up on the stage and draw dancers since I love to dance. Everyone was so nice!"
