This is the Schneider-Farris Family's Blog. Keep up with what we are doing by logging into this site regularly! (The reason this site is called "Tragedy and Triumph" is that when I first founded this site, my husband, Dan, had been in a horrible accident, and he recovered. His recovery was a miracle! I can never again be “some people!”

When the three Schneider-Farris kids and I step into an ice rink today, no one would ever think that there had ever been a time in our lives where we faced near tragedy. We appear on the outside as just one skating family among many who are trying to do something special.

There’s a song I adore from the movie Gypsy called “Some People.” On Broadway, the song was made famous when it was sung by Ethel Merman. Later, Rosalind Russell and Bette Midler sang the same song in screen versions of that musical play. Some of the words of that song have become my theme as I’ve raised my children and given them a somewhat non-traditional life that includes a commitment to figure skating.

“Some people can get a thrill, knitting sweaters and sitting still
…Some people can be content, playing bingo and paying rent
…Some people can thrive and bloom, living life in a living room
That’s okay for some people
But some people ain’t me!”

After what I’ve been through, I can never again be “some people.” Ever since Dan’s accident, I have done what I’ve needed to do and I’ve lived my life in my own creative way. I know that the choices I’ve made have not always been wise or the right choices, but as I’ve done the best I can. I’ve tried hard to have a positive outlook. That’s the way I moved forward.
