Good-Bye to My Late Father's Treasured Jeep - October 23, 2024

I sold my late father’s treasured 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer this past week.

My father died almost three years ago and my mechanic has had it since a little before he passed.  The mechanic fixed a lot of things, but had not gotten around to getting it to a place where I could drive it.  I purchased really great new tires for it too.  I have been paying insurance and registration costs hoping I could get it restored at a body shop after that.

I would check on the car from time to time and when I saw what seemed like more rust and a cracked windshield, I decided it would be best for someone who loved the vehicle as much as my dad to have it.

Saying goodbye to it was like saying goodbye to my Daddy again.  It was so, so emotional.  I cried.  My dad and I were, so so close.  I took care of him until the day he died.

The buyer has offered to restore it to a perfect state for me and will give me the opportunity to buy it back once all is perfect.  Just knowing that is possible means so much.

Below is the advertisement I put on Facebook Marketplace and to a Grand Wagoneer Facebook group:

much.

SOLD this afternoon 10/23/2024 to Marty Hotes a member of this group.  I know he will restore it and make me (and my later father) so happy!

This 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer was my late father’s pride and joy.  For that reason it’s been hard to part with.  It has new tires, a new radiator, a new carburetor, a new engine control module, a new distributer, new thermostat, and new hoses and can be driven short distances, but needs a new engine and fuel gauge.  I am not sure the AC works or not.  The outside has some rust and the woody panels are fading.  The inside is in pretty good shape.  I was going to get it fixed and get the rust repaired and get the car painted and look for new woody panels to restore it to its once beautiful state, but my mechanic has just not gotten around to getting the engine.  I am thinking someone else who loves these old Jeeps could restore it and enjoy it. My mechanic’s shop can be called at 719-247-9525 to find out more about this collector’s item Jeep.  It is in Colorado Springs at Marickio’s Auto Repair, 1840 W. Uintah Street, 80904.  They are open Monday through Friday from 7:30—5:30.
