It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!
See Rebekah and Joel perform their pair program to the Andy Williams song "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!" It was for a holiday ice show at Colorado College on 12-21-07. They were "the hit" of the show!

Rebekah and Joel Did Great at Junior Nationals!
Rebekah and Joel did a wonderful job at Junior Nationals. They made the finals in ice dancing. They did a great job with their pairs too. Our family enjoyed some time together. We look forward now to a week off from skating training.

Southwesterns 2008 - Rebekah Schneider-Farris Wins Bronze
We just returned from the 2008 Southwestern Regional Figure Skating Championships in Dallas and Rebekah won a bronze medal in Pre-Juvenile Girls Group D! We are so proud of her.

Dan was a great dad and drove us to and from Dallas. It is so nice to be together and to be a family! Go Rebekah!

It's September 16, 2007 - 10 Gold Medals and Two Years Later
Today is September 16, 2007. On September 16, 2005, Dan fell off the Bijou Street Bridge onto the highway below. It seemed like he was going to die, but he miraculously lived. Two weeks later, he woke up from a coma. We wondered if he'd ever walk or work again. We wondered if our family would survive after experiencing so much trauma.
Two years later, the wondering seems like a dream. The wondering seems like a dream that couldn't possibly ever have occurred.
Dan's accident happened right in the middle of the Colorado Springs Invitational Figure Skating Competition. The day of Dan's accident, the children and I had spent the day at that competition. That day, we had no idea that this yearly event would mark the anniversary where our family would always remember the tragedy we were about to face. I will always remember September 16, 2005.
The Colorado Springs Invitational is going on this weekend, and all three children competed in it this year. Not only that, but the children competed in multiple events, and our family has left this competition with ten gold medals and with much happiness! Joel and Rebekah entered four different ice dance events and won everything they entered. Joel also won Pre-Juvenile Boys freeskating and Annabelle won Pre-Pre Girls freeskating.

Dan was with us through the whole competition: he helped us with many competition details. He took photos and videos of the children. He was a great supporting dad.
We remember what happened two years ago, but we've also moved on and hope to someday forget.....for now, we continue to be thankful that we are a family who has a dad that is alive and whole and is with us!

Out Trip Back to Colorado
Going back to Colorado was an adventure. First, we had to get all our bags from the place we stayed at 31st and Park into the SuperShuttle that we had reserved to take us to the airport. We had tons of luggage since this trip included the Lake Placid skating competition: skates, competition clothes, rollerblades, a tape recorder, and lots of other things.
Then, we drove all around the streets of New York for about an hour to pick others up in bumper to bumper traffic, but finally reached the La Guardia Airport. The place was mobbed and we had tons of luggage to move around. We got in the wrong line with all our stuff at first (that link had about 200 people in it) and we did move to the shorter line that took "E" ticket reservations after waiting in the wrong line for about 30 minutes. Moving the stuff was really hard since we had about 16 pieces to move! One man took pity on us and helped move the two heaviest bags.
Dan was great. Who would have thought he could have moved the stuff at all?
Finally, we checked in and the baggage people even made us move the bags to be checked to the x-ray area. We were glad to have a lighter load after that and went towards our gate. There we had to go through the area that searches each passenger and luggage. We were very glad to make it through with all pieces passing inspection. The idea of going back to the check-in area was NOT appealing.
We found our gate, got some food (another long line and an expensive venture) and waited and then boarded the plane. Were we glad to be sitting down!
The flight was nice. We saw a movie (Shrek the 3rd) and rested. We arrived to a peaceful Dallas Airport and had a short walk to a new gate. The only thing that went wrong was that Annabelle left her pillow on the plane from New York, but we were able to get back on the plane and get the pillow. Once we got on the plane in Dallas and headed for Colorado Springs, things felt calm. The flight was not long. When we left the plane we were shocked to enter an empty and quiet terminal. We got our baggage without worrying about someone stealing it from under our noses and our friend Larisa Gendernalik picked us up and took us home. The only challenge we had was fitting all our baggage in her car.
Home felt good and yes, trips like ths make us realize that there is no place like home.
